Soller, Spain

Soller is quite a sizeable town, although most shops, cafes and bars are (as one might expect) confined to to the central locations around the attractive main square.

A particular feature of this area are the trams which run between the town and the nearby port. Far from being a mere tourist attraction, these trams are an important part of local life and the inhabitants of both Soller town and Porto de Soller rely heavily on the amazing (and cheap) transport they offer.

It is also worth bearing in mind that a train service operates between Palma and Soller too, as this does to some degree mean that car hire is not as much of a necessity should you select Soller as a base for your vacation.

The thing which sets Soller apart from many places in Mallorca is it’s relative remoteness. Unless you travel via the “Soller tunnel” then, no matter which way you enter the town by road, you are in for a mountainous but gorgeously scenic drive, which is well worthwhile.

One more thing - If you visit this lovely town, don’t forget to pay a visit to the fantastic Pasteleria near to the railway station. Their cakes and pastries are not something you can simply look at without buying - Delicious!!
