Porto Colom, Spain |

The resort of Porto Colom is the principle coastal development of the Municipality of “Felanitx”, an area which contains a handful of picturesque inland villages, and a couple of other coastal resorts. Perfect for couples and families not looking for water parks or an overly “commercial” holiday.
The beach at Porto Colom is more popular with the locals who tend to avoid the larger and more crowded beaches at nearby Cala Marcal.
Porto Colom remains a small traditional fishing village that has so far resisted full scale tourist commercialisation. The main feature of the town is the large natural harbour, which is the home to a number of small fishing boats and an ever increasing number of leisure craft. Around the harbour area there is a fair selection of shops for the everyday holiday essentials, along with more souvenir shops behind the beach at Cala Marcal, (where most of the tourist development has taken place).
Porto Colom is the site of one of the most important, and best preserved prehistoric sites on Majorca, and for this reason there is a major archaeology project known underway in an attempt to further understand the ancient civilisations of the island! In the town is a splendid sandstone church, currently undergoing renovation. In front is a quiet park. Perfect scenery for a relaxing summer’s day! |
